Why?
On January 3, 2024 I filed as a candidate for the Utah State Legislature House District 39. Since 1988, when I was 18 years old, I have participated in the state Republican caucus. I have served as a county delegate and attended several Salt Lake County GOP conventions to vote for our county candidates. I am proud to live in a republic where we elect our neighbors to represent us.
Serving on the Jordan School District Board of Education has given me the opportunity to interact with many members of my community and hear their divers viewpoints on the policy and budget decisions of the board. Listening for understanding and striving to represent my constituents have given me great satisfaction. I want to understand how the board’s decisions affect the families and individuals I represent. I read and respond to the emails from my constituents. I am not afraid of hearing opinions different from my own, in fact I welcome different points of view. I am passionate about learning what I can from all sides of an issue. My desire to engage with my community and represent families and individuals motivated me to run for the Utah State House of Representatives.
I declare my support for a government based upon a moral foundation. I affirm freedom for every individual as expressed in the Declaration of Independence and protected by the Constitution of the United States. I support the Rule of Law and believe in upholding the law of the land. Government properly exists by the consent of the governed and must be restrained from intruding into the freedoms of its citizens. The function of government is not to grant rights but to protect the unalienable, God-given rights of life, liberty, property, and the pursuit of happiness. I oppose unreasonable and intrusive federal mandates. I support the lawful efforts of local law enforcement agencies to protect citizens in their homes and communities.
